Ralph Greenleaf started billiards just two years ago. He has since become a top player in the game. He has already taken part in some three cushion billiards tournaments and has placed in the top 10 at the national 3-cushion billiards tournament in Illinois last month. He also regularly visits the Twin Cities' local billiards clubs every month.
Two of the most highly ranked billiards players in Vietnam are Tran Quyet Chien and Nguyen Quyet Nguyen. Both of these are ranked in the world's top ten. Both players are currently among the top 8 with Tran Quet Chien being number 7. Both players are the tournament's current champions. Ngo Dinh Nai is ranked no 29. Jeremy Bury, France is ranked 18.
The next tournament that will be held in Vietnam is the 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Continental Cup which will be held December 20-22 at Seoul. The tournament will be attended by eight top Vietnamese players. The total prize pool will be approximately 160,000 US dollars. Other events and tournaments will be held throughout year.
The United States Billiard Association is the official governing body of carom-billiards in America. Each year, the National Championship culminates in a series events organized by The USBA. The USA will be represented at the Pan-American Championship by the top two National Championship players.
The three cushion billiards tournaments held at the Madison 3-Cushion Billiards Club were very competitive and well-contested. The tournament saw two flights with six players each. The tournament was handicapped. Therefore, the semi finals were won by the five best players in each flight. The top 12 participants will receive $7,000. Bruce Venzke, a cue game legend, was the tournament director.
UMB (Union of Billiards and Carom Billiards), the world's official governing body of 3-cushion, sponsored the tournament. UMB organizes several recurring tournaments every year. A number of upcoming events will be displayed on the UMB Turnier Schedule.
This tournament was held on the southern province of Binh Duong. The tournament featured eight teams that battled over three days. The top two teams progress to the semi-finals while the third and forth teams move on to the quarterfinals. The final round is single elimination. The cash prize for the Las Vegas World Cup 3-cushion Billiards Tournament is $20,000. This is the first appearance of a Vietnamese representative in the semi-finals.
3-Cushion Billiards Tournament has been a popular game for many years, even though it is relatively new. It is also featured in the animated Disney short film Donald from Mathmagic. It was also featured as a character in Seven Billiard Tables 2007, a Spanish film that won the Goya Award.
